Ready for Brexit!
We caught up with Nigel Judd at Genesis Plant Marketing, just a few days after Brexit finally became reality.
'Preparing for Brexit has not been an easy process with many changes for us, our breeders and our licensees, especially as the largest proportion of our income comes from within the EU!'
Sample Plant Export
'With plant inspections and Phytosanitary certificates likely to be required, paperwork and costs will increase no doubt about that. However, we are ready with tried and tested systems for sample plant export already in place. This is based on our years of experience moving material outside of the EU to the U.S. Japan, Australia and other locations.'
'Our EU partners are in full support of our efforts and are still eager to receive UK bred new products.'

Protect New Plant Varieties
'Leaving the EU means we have to protect new plant varieties, and renew that protection in a different way. We are fully prepared for this too having appointed a representative based on the Netherlands some months ago.'
'They will deal with all our new variety protection applications with the CPVO and also all the annual variety protection renewals. Our breeders will receive a seamless transition with no risk to the protection of their own varieties.'
UK Market Protection
'Equally we are well placed to provide a service for any EU based companies looking to protect a variety for the UK market and can make those applications on their behalf. There are many challenges ahead but we are ready to take them on and build on our continued success with our licensing partners in the EU and beyond.'
Taster for 2021
This leading Plant Marketing company are pressing ahead with the launch of the New Heuchera Frilly (above) for 2021. Frilly is perfect for Patio containers but equally at home in the perennial border. Its unique colourful foliage provides interest throughout the year as the colours change from caramel through to red.
