A Showcase to Dream About!
Michael Warren reports on the latest edition of this 2019 plant extravaganza.
Running over a three week period, the Ball Colegrave Summer Showcase provides a dream event, every summer.
As the name suggests, this event showcases the best that Ball Colegrave can offer. Boasting over 200 varieties in their guide leaflet, it’s cover displays the exciting bright new Osteospermum Compact FlowerPower Purple Sun (P).
Inside the guide as I viewed the displays I picked out the Celosia Dracula with it’s blood red cockscomb like flowers.
Petunias are still very much the in-flower with more new ones arriving every year. This year the hybrids with Callibracoa called Petchoa are creating some interest.

They were part of the giant pyramid display at the Gardeners World Live show and are now planted out at the RHS Hyde Hall garden in Essex. “I chose the Petchoa ® Caramel Yellow from the four distinct in the series”.
“In the Petunias with spotted flowers, which have proved surprisingly popular, three more have been added. I selected one, Glacier Sky (P) as an example whilst Petunia Fanfare TM Eclipse (P) should be a winner”.
Amongst the Perennials, a section increasing in range, another Leucanthemum, an F1, enters the market called Madonna.
Also catching this visitors eye, were Iberis Summer Snowdrift, a good choice of name, Delphiniums Aurora Blue and White, Salvia Marvel Sky Blue and Lavandula F1 Blue Spear.

Tantalising Taste of the Future
The rows of containers planted with exciting plants, labels marked ‘Experimental’ are tantalising to the visitor. Something to look forward to in the future which looks bright for both the Industry and Ball Colegrave.
“All visitors to the displays have the opportunity to place a blue flag in their plant of choice. This is a difficult decision to make with such a vast amount of first class plants to choose from. I will keep my selection to myself, my decision is final!”.

The Showcase runs until this coming Friday August 2nd at their Banbury location.
