Climate-adapted Urban Tree Planting
Lorenz von Ehren nursery is supporting the University of Hamburg in their current tree planting scheme.
This project explores how future tree stock can be adapted to extended summer dry periods. For this purpose, BoBaSt soil substrates are tested in combination with the choice of promising tree species and varieties.
A total of 135 trees are being planted, including nine different species/ varieties and five trees per specie / variety in three different substrates.
Major issue for Nursery Sector
"Climate change is a big issue for the tree nursery sector, which we have been seeing on our woody plants for years," says Bernhard von Ehren, managing partner of the Lorenz von Ehren nursery. "Therefore, it is forward-looking for us to accompany this field trial and to provide areas, trees and staff directly at our nursery.
