Economic Factors Create New Dynamic

For many years the Eurasia Plant Show (Istanbul Flower Show) every November was the right place for European growers to sell their plants. In essence, there was huge hunger for plants coming from Turkish Municipalities for their urban landscape projects.

Rise in Turkish Plant Sales

However, the present economical situation and especially the huge difference in the rate of exchange (2.6 liras for 1 euro in 2015 and the present 6 liras for 1 euro, with a peak last August of almost 8 liras) has determined a drastic change. Now this show has become the place for European clients to source and buy Turkish plant material.

Increase in Quality

The quality has increased almost to European grower levels and therefore the price/quality ratio for Turkish plants is now really very good. Some of the growers have already shipped trial loads to Europe, often using their same European partners as before in the opposite direction. A reduction in Municipal budgets across Turkey has also combined to create this new dynamic.

Reduced Presence

There were a reduced number of exhibitors in November, compared with 2017. The 2018 event was the second edition to be held in the new Tuyap venue. Mustafa Gültekin Gökgül, the new Director of CYF Group (owned now by the UK based Tarsus group), is very optimistic for the next edition in 2019.

With the rate of exchange, exports from Turkey will be boosted, but some European nurseries will still sell their products in Turkey for high level landscaping projects (Hotels, resorts and shopping centres).

Easy Access for 2019

The next edition will take place on November 28th-30th 2019 in Tuyap Centre. This venue provides easy access from the new Istanbul airport.
